Death is mentioned in the Bible multiple times and plays a significant role in our lives. As Christians, it’s important to learn what the Bible has to say about death, so we can gain a better understanding of our own mortality. From the Genesis account of creation, to Paul’s letter to the Romans, death is a major theme throughout the scriptures.
The Bible views death as a natural and significant event in life. It talks about death in physical and spiritual terms, as a separation of the body and soul. In the book of Genesis, death is presented as part of the curse resulting from man’s fall from grace, while in the New Testament, death is viewed as a result of Christ’s victory over sin and death through His resurrection.
The Bible encourages us not to fear death, but rather to accept it as part of life’s natural progression. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 15:26 that, “The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” In these passages, Paul reminds us that death is a reality for all of life, but that it does not have to be feared, because it is ultimately overcome by Christ’s victory.
