What Does The Bible Say About Protection
Protection is a natural instinct for us all – it’s an essential need for safety. But what does the Bible say about protection? In the Bible God lays out how He will protect His beloved people and guard them from harm. God promises to protect us in times of distress and in our darkest moments. This can be seen throughout the Old and New Testament.
The Bible reveals God’s provision and love for us, and His desire to protect us. In Proverbs 18:10 it is written: “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” This verse expresses the power of protection through God’s name, and the comfort and reassurance that He provides. The psalmist writes in Psalm 34:7: “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” Here, we see a demonstration of the protective angel sent by the Lord, protecting all those who place their trust in Him.
God also protects those who are vulnerable and in need. He extends his protection even to the weak and oppressed, as written in Psalm 10:17-18: “You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may strike terror no more.” Here we see God’s protectiveness of those who are in need of it.
Throughout Scripture, God promises to protect His people and those who put their trust in Him. But He also calls on us to protect and care for each other. We can look to the example of Jesus, who advocated for the care of the least of these in Luke 4:18-19: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Clearly, scripture is filled with examples of God’s protection and care for us. He gives us the assurance that He will provide for us and protect us in times of trouble. He gives us the charge to do the same for one another. We can stand firm in the assurance that as long as we keep God’s commands and entrust our souls to Him, we will be safe and secure.
Protection Through Prayers

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.”
In prayer, we can make our requests known to God in private, speaking personally and intimately to our Father. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus gives his followers the instruction to “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” By putting our faith in Him through prayer we can receive the protection that He promises.

Protection Through Faith
Our faith in God is a primary source of protection. In 1 Peter 5:7, the apostle Peter encourages us to “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” By surrendering our troubles to Him and believing in His promises, we can receive the protection that He promises.
Faith can provide us with an unshakable confidence in God. Faith can be a shield against anxiety and fear, knowing that we have a God who will protect us no matter what situation we are in. We can find security in His presence, knowing that He loves us unconditionally and will never leave us. We can open ourselves up to Him and receive the protection that He freely gives.
The Bible provides a clear and sure foundation on which to build our life. We can take comfort in the unending love of God, the kindness and faithfulness that He has bestowed upon us. Our trust in Him is the cornerstone of our protection, which will never fail.
Protection Through Worship
Worship is another way to experience the power of God’s protection. Through worship, we can draw strength from His presence and receive guidance for our lives. In Psalm 91:1-2, it is written: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” Here, we see the power of worship as protection. When we worship the Lord, we are taking shelter in Him, and we are safe.
Worship is also a way to give praise to God and thank Him for His blessings. InPsalm 100: 4-5, it is written: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” By praising and thanking the Lord, we are expressing our love and trust in Him. We are acknowledging His protection and the power of His faithfulness.
Worship is a powerful and effective way to access God’s protection. Through worship, we can draw close to Him and acknowledge His mercy, love and faithfulness. We can thank Him for all that He has done, and trust that He will protect us from harm.
Protection Through Obedience
The final way that we can receive protection is through obedience. When we obey the Lord, we are submitting to His authority and laws. We are putting our trust into Him, and believing that He will protect us as we follow His commands. In Deuteronomy 11:26-28, it is written: “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today.” Here, we see a direct call to obedience, and the promise of protection if we follow through with it.
Obedience is a powerful way to express our trust in God. By putting our faith in Him, we allow ourselves to be open to His protection. We can accept His will and trust that He will watch over us and direct us in our lives.
Protection Through Forgiveness
God also promises us protection through forgiveness. In Ephesians 4:31-32, it is written: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” In this passage, we are encouraged to forgive one another and to live out the same forgiveness that we receive from God. When we forgive, we are showing trust in God and faith that He will protect us.
Forgiveness is an integral part of God’s protection. By forgiving those who have wronged us, we open ourselves up to God in vulnerability and trust. We can entrust our lives to Him, knowing that He will help us to work out our differences and protect us from further harm.
God’s promises of protection are numerous throughout scripture. We can look to Him to provide us with safety and security at all times, and He reveals the various ways we can access this protection. By putting our faith in Him through prayer, faith, worship, obedience, and forgiveness, we can experience the power of His protection and be reassured of His presence in our lives.
Protection Through Trust

In Proverbs 3:5-6, it is written: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Here, we see a call to trust in the Lord, and an assurance that He will protect us if we do.
Trust requires us to submit to God’s will and accept His judgment in our lives. When we trust in God, we can be sure that He will protect us and guide us in the right direction. Psalm 37:3-5 states: “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” This powerful passage encourages us to trust in God’s plans for our lives, and that He will fulfill them if we do.
