Belief in Self and Testament of God
The Bible is a sacred text that provides answers to followers’ most personal and consuming queries, including questions about confidence. For generations, biblical interpretations have helped believers understand how to increase their self-assurance levels and how to use that strength to lead a successful and fulfilling life.
Confidence is defined as self-assurance in one’s abilities and beliefs. An individual’s faith in themselves and their actions can be a powerful source of motivation and a tool to overcome any obstacle. The Bible provides many examples of men and women whose faith in their abilities and beliefs enabled them to press on with admirable outcomes.
In Psalm 27:1, King David declares “The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” Through this powerful verse, we learn that evidence of God’s strength in our lives can give us the confidence to proceed without fear. In numerous other passages such as 2 Timothy 1:7 and 1 John 4:4, we can also recognize God’s empowering presence within us. These verses encourage us to never be ashamed of our faith and encourages us to live with the conviction that we can boldly face any situation.
Reminders of Faith
The Bible also serves as a source of guidance, providing basics reminders of one’s faith. Proverbs 3:5-6 states “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” This verse encourages believers to put their assurance in God rather than in their own understanding and in doing so, their faith will be unwavering and their confidence will grow and become stronger.
The Bible also focuses on the need for personal assurance that is independent of any outside recognition or affirmation. Ecclesiastes 11:4 mentions this point, stating “He who watches the wind will not sow; and he who looks at the clouds will not reap.” This proverb serves as a reminder to believers to not be dependent on external variables for confirmation or assurance as we cannot foresee the future or have control over what will happen. Rather we should rely on our decisions and convictions to guide our every decision and step.
Season of Fear, Call to Brave
Further, the Bible also speaks to the grander scheme of life and encourages people to not be bound by fear. In months of uncertainty and unrest, today’s people can find a sense of assurance in the words of Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This verse reassures us that we can always turn to God and our faith in times of adversity, reserving fear for none other. We can be courageous and confident in the knowledge that no matter what we are facing, with our faith, the strength of the Almighty can make all the difference.
Rejection, Doubt, and Strength from Within
The Bible also reminds us that in every trial, or when met with any level of rejection or doubt, we should summon strength from ourselves to face even the most discomforting situation. In 2 Corinthians 5:7, we come to terms with this concept as it declares “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” This verse is a reminder that we should not rely on our senses to guide us, as we cannot always trust what we see and hear. Rather, this phrase encourages individuals to channel their faith and trust in God to guide their lives, so that they can rely on what they cannot see and yet have faith in a greater power.
Empowerment and Reward
The Bible also provides slivers of guidance on how to increase levels of self-assurance. In Psalm 240:3-4 we read “He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.” These verses offer a reminder that even in the face of difficulty, the presence of God can be empowering. Through our faith and the assurance that God is with us, we can possess the strength and conviction to move forward, despite the challenge.
Defiance and Perseverance
In the book of Nehemiah, we learn about the biblical character’s fortitude and determination as he persevered to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem despite ridicule and defeat, Eventually, the walls were rebuilt and the city of Jerusalem was saved. This testament of faith and confidence serves as an encouragement to believers who are facing hurdles of their own that they can overcome these difficulties with belief and positivity, no matter the odds.
Courage and Humility
The Bible also speaks to the importance of possessing courage, with humility. In her youthful innocence, the young prophetess Deborah encourages her people with her courage, unwavering faith and trust in God. Deborah stood boldly against perceivable giants and addressed communal issues, finding the fortitude to speak up and move forward. She is an example to believers all around the world that with courage and focus, we can reach our goals in life.
Sacrificing Pride for Patience
The Bible also imparts knowledge on the importance of sacrificing pride and insecurities in order to reap the benefits of patience. Scripture that reiterates this lesson include Ecclesiastes 7:8-9 and Colossians 3:12, both of which emphasize the need to remain determined and stay on course no matter the opposition that may be encountered.
Acceptance and Understanding
The Bible also reminds us of the importance of being patient and forgiving with ourselves, especially in times of self-discovery. In this journey, we also learn to accept our weaknesses along with our strengths in order to gain a better understanding of ourselves. Romans 12:3 speaks to this concept when it says ” Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement.” This verse is a reminder to be understanding and accepting of ourselves, in order to realize our goals. With this understanding and acceptance, we can become more confident in our abilities, as we embody a sense of self-agacement.
Sharing Confidence and God’s Power
The Bible also encourages believers to share their faith and confidence with others. Matthew 28:19-20 illustrates this reminder as it says “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” This quotation encourages us to believe in our actions and share that belief with others, so that together, God’s will and ways can be spread throughout the world.
Recovering from Defeats
Further, the Bible also provides words of solace in times of defeat or disappointment, reminding us to always operate from a place of understanding and self-preservation. In Psalm 34: 17-20, we read “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.” This mystical passage guides us towards an understanding of our own strength and resilience as we find hope in God’s comforting embrace.
Active Faith and Confluence of Beliefs
Finally, the Bible continuously emphasizes the need to be active in our faith and understanding of self-worth. Referencing Proverbs 16:3 we read “Commit to the lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.” This verse reassures us that a combination of faith and hard work is necessary for growth and that God will be with us every step of the way. With this active faith and confluence of beliefs, our confidence can be persistent and resilient.
