What Does The Bible Say About Hearing Your Name Called
Being called by name is a privilege and a way to be acknowledged, valued and known in the Bible. Deuteronomy 33:3 states, “[God] knoweth the name of every single soul that is known.” The fact that God knows each individual’s name is amazing, especially when it’s considered that there are 7 billion souls living in the world today.
Numerous times in the Bible, somebody’s name is called either by a messenger of God or by an angel. When an angel of the Lord called the name of Moses, Moses replied “here am I!” in Exodus 3:4. This reply is used to express an understanding and acceptance of a call to action. It’s like a soldier’s response in the army when they are called to duty.
An example of someone called by name to build a Church is found in Peter’s vision in Acts 10:10-17. Peter was ordered to declare a Gospel message to the household of Cornelius. The voice Peter heard said: “Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.” Peter heard his own name and that is how he knew it was directed to him specifically. This is such a powerful message to individuals today, because when they hear their own name they should be reminded that somehow God has a plan for them and has chosen them to do something special.
When Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane a great multitude of angels for his aid. In Mark 14:32 Jesus spoke to his disciples and said “Rise, let us be going.” He then called them by name. This action tells us that one of the most important ways to affirm someone is by their name, as Jesus spoke directly to them and the disciples followed his directions.
The Bible is full of accounts where individual names are mentioned. One of the most beautiful is when the names of God’s people are written in the Book of Life. This is a book mentioned by Jesus when speaking of Judgment Day in Revelation 20:15.
God’s Providence
God knows each individual’s name and how our lives unfold. He’s aware of our character and the context in which we live. He has a perfect plan for each of us and He calls our names to respond to His plan. In Isaiah 45:3, it says “I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places.” God wants us to answer His call and follow His path for our lives.
The Bible speaks about God’s providence. This is the belief that God is responsible for the existence of the universe and He is continuously involved in and aware of the order of events. There are numerous examples of God’s providential guidance in the stories of Isaac, Jacob, Rachel and Moses. God wonders about the decisions we make in our daily lives and He often puts a special reminder in place for us to think about.
God’s providence is evidence that He loves us and watches over us in our lives. When we hear our name called, it should be taken as a reminder of God’s love and guidance in our lives. Psalm 147:3 states “He healeth the broken hearted and bindeth up their wounds.” God is aware of what we are struggling with and He calls us to respond in faith and trust that His plans will be the best for our lives.
Be Transformed By His Voice
Listening to God’s voice is the first step to finding the peace of mind and joy in our lives that He offers. When we hear our names called, it should be seen as an invitation from God to surrender to Him and experience a real change in our lives.
God’s voice is powerful and transforming. Everyone hears it in different ways, but when it’s loud and clear we know it’s God speaking to us. We should take this as an opportunity to take a chance, to be courageous and to step out of our comfort zone and trust in Him. He never fails His people and He will work wonders in our lives if we’re willing to follow His path.
God Calls Us To Serve
God calls each of us to serve Him in different ways and make the world a better place. In Amos 3:7 it says “Surely the Lord GOD [will] do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” We’re called to serve God’s mission and follow His plan for our lives.
Being called by name is an honor and a privilege, as God has chosen us to serve Him and influence the world. Each of us have a unique way of serving God and our purpose should be directed to the good works that God wants us to do. In Matthew 5:16 it is written “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
God not only calls us to serve Him but He also warns us when we are going in the wrong direction. Ezekiel 33:1-9 describes in detail how God calls individuals to repentance and how He is deeply concerned about the spiritual state of His people.
Be An Obedient Servant Of God
When we hear our name called by God, we should be ready to respond. We should be prepared to put aside our own visions and plans for our lives and be ready to serve. It’s important to be an obedient servant to God’s wishes, be humble and ask for forgiveness when we’re wrong.
We can learn from the example of Mary Magdalene, who was called by Jesus from the tombs she was living in. She responded to his call and followed him faithfully, proclaiming Him as King and Savior.
Receiving God’s call can be both exciting and scary. We should never be afraid of God’s calling, but instead take it as an opportunity to be blessed, transformed and guided in our lives. We should view it as a privilege to be chosen by God to serve and share the gospel.
Act In Faith
When our names are called we should follow in faith. We may not understand God’s plan for our lives, but we should trust that He has something special in store for us. We should take the risk and go out of our comfort zone to live the life He has planned and promised us.
God is always with us, He directs us to places, people and opportunities that will bring us closer to Him and fulfill His promises. We should remember that God is the ultimate judge and that He will provide for us in times of desperation and sorrow.
Seek The Presence Of God
After we have answered God’s call, we should search for His presence and guidance in moments of uncertainty and fear. We should read the Bible, pray, and seek out Christians who can guide us in the path of righteousness and help us in our journey.
If we listen carefully, we will experience God’s presence and feel Him all around us. He will fill us with peace and joy and direct us in the right path, so that we can become who He has planned us to be.
Tune Into God’s Whisper
In a world full of noise, it’s hard to distinguish truth from lies and deception. We should use our faith to tune into the small, still voice of God and make sure that we are hearing Him correctly.
The Bible provides numerous examples of how to know God’s voice from all the other voices that seem to surround us. We should always stay focused on Jesus’ teachings and words and trust that God’s voice will be heard when it needs to be.
Be Still And Listen For God
In John 10:27 Jesus said “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me.” We should take every chance we get to be still in quietness and listen for God’s voice.
We should be quiet and clear our minds of all other noises and distractions. If we do this, we will be able to distinguish God’s voice and understand what our role is in His plan.
We should remember that when we hear our names called by God, it’s an invitation to come closer to Him and serve Him in whatever way He has planned for us. We should not be afraid to answer His call and trust that He will never leave us alone or lead us astray.
