What Does The Bible Say About A Wife

Being a Submissive Wife

The Bible includes many scriptures that emphasize the importance of a wife’s role in being a submissive partner in marriage. Ephesians 5:22-24 reminds us to “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands”. This biblical scripture shows us how important it is for a wife to be submissive to her husband, just as the Church is submissive to Christ.
A wife should also carry out her responsibilities within the home and submit to her husband’s authority. Paul writes in Colossians 3:18 that wives should “[W]ives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.” In order to fulfill this commandment, wives should look to their husbands for guidance and support, listening to their advice and acting in accordance with his wishes. This means that a wife should be willing to prioritize her husband’s needs over her own, allowing him to lead the family and offering her support in any way she can.
A wife should also work to foster a strong and loving relationship with her husband. While the Bible does command wives to submit to their husbands’ authority, it also emphasizes the importance of loving and caring for one another. In 1 Corinthians 7:3-5, Paul reminds us to “Let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” This biblical scripture calls upon wives to not only submit to their husbands but to also show them love and respect.
The Bible also calls on wives to demonstrate their servitude through efficiency in household duties. In 1 Timothy 5:14, Paul states that “I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully”. By taking care of the household and being an efficient wife, a woman is showing her husband that she is willing to serve him and take on her responsibilities as a wife.
Finally, the Bible reminds wives to remain faithful to their husbands and to be honest in their marriage. Hebrews 13:4 says “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” Wives should strive to remain faithful to their marriage and to be honest with their husbands and one another.

Being a Submissive Wife to God

Apart from being a submissive wife to her husband, the Bible also emphasizes the importance of a wife being submissive to God. Ephesians 5:21 states “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ”. This commandment calls upon wives to be willing to submit to the will of God, instead of asking or expecting their husbands to take the lead all the time.
A wife should also seek to honor God in her marriage. Paul reminds us in 1 Peter 3:7 “in the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together”. The Bible encourages wives to honor God by honoring their marriage and treating their husbands with respect.
As part of honoring God in marriage, a wife should also be willing to forgive her husband and remain faithful to him. In addition, she should work to build a strong Christian marriage. Ephesians 5:25-28 states “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish”. This scripture reminds us of the importance of a wife being obedient to the will of God and striving to build a strong Christian marriage.
Finally, the Bible also encourages wives to share in the spiritual responsibilities of their husbands. In 1 Corinthians 7:13-15, Paul writes “The wife must respect her husband and his decisions. She should be willing to lighten his burden in any way that she can, so that he can focus on the spiritual responsibilities of his household”. By taking on her responsibilities as a wife and supporting her husband, a woman can be an effective partner in helping her husband to fulfill his spiritual duties.

Strengthening the Marriage

The Bible offers us many scriptures to help us strengthen our marriages and emphasizes the importance of a wife being obedient and supportive to her husband. Proverbs 12:4 states “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones”. This scripture calls upon wives to strive for excellence in their marriages and to bring honor to their husbands.
Wives should also strive to bring joy and peace to their marriage. Proverbs 12:18 says “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing”. By speaking kindly to her husband and striving to bring joy and peace to the marriage, a wife can show her devotion to him and to God.
A wife should also be willing to work for the betterment of the marriage. Proverbs 31:12 states “She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life”. In order to fulfill this commandment, a wife should prioritize her husband’s needs and be willing to work to make their marriage stronger.
Finally, the Bible calls upon wives to be faithful to their marriage and to remain loyal to their husbands. Proverbs 31:11-12 reminds us to “The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life”. Wives should strive to remain faithful to their marriage and to be loyal to their husbands.

Submission and Respect

The Bible stresses the importance of a wife loving, respecting and submitting to her husband. In Ephesians 5:33, Paul commands us to “Let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband”. This scripture reminds us of the importance of a wife respecting her husband and being willing to submit to him.
A wife should also be willing to prioritize her husband’s needs. Ephesians 5:21 states “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord”. In order to fulfill this commandment, a wife should be willing to prioritize her husband’s needs over her own and be an effective partner in her marriage.
A wife should also strive to be a good listener and to be understanding of her husband’s feelings. Proverbs 18:13 says “If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame”. By listening and being understanding of her husband’s feelings, a wife can be a more effective partner in her marriage.
Finally, the Bible calls upon wives to demonstrate their servitude through the things they do. Proverbs 31:11-12 states “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness”. A wife can show her husband that she is willing to serve him and to be a willing partner in their marriage by taking care of household responsibilities and being an efficient wife.

Showing Love and Companionship

The Bible calls upon wives to show love and companionship to their husbands. 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 reminds us to “Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does”. This scripture calls upon wives to prioritize their husband’s needs and to be understanding of his feelings.
A wife should also strive to build a strong and loving relationship with her husband. Ephesians 5:28 states “Let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband”. By showing respect, kindness and love to her husband, a wife can strengthen her relationship with him and build a strong and loving marriage.
A wife should also seek to be a source of comfort and strength to her husband. In 1 Peter 3:7, Paul encourages us to “Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel”. By supporting her husband and being a source of strength and comfort to him, a wife can be an effective partner in her marriage and a blessing to her husband.
Finally, the Bible calls upon wives to pray for their husbands and to strive to be faithful in their marriage. Proverbs 15:30 says “A calm and gentle spirit is a precious gift that increases over time and brings joy to the man who has it”. By staying faithful and praying for her husband, a wife can be an effective partner in her marriage and a blessing to her husband.

Being a Supportive Wife

The Bible encourages wives to be supportive and understanding of their husbands. Proverbs 31:11-12 states “The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life”. This scripture reminds us of the importance of a wife supporting her husband’s decisions and being there for him in any way she can.
A wife should also be willing to take on her responsibilities. Proverbs 31:27 says “She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness”. By taking on her responsibilities as a wife and being an active participant in her marriage, a woman can be an effective partner in her marriage and a blessing to her husband.
The Bible also encourages wives to be honest and remain faithful to their husbands. In Hebrews 13:4, Paul reminds us to “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous”. By being honest and faithful to her husband, a wife can strengthen their marriage and build a lasting relationship.
Finally, the Bible reminds us of the importance of a wife respecting her husband. Proverbs 12:4 states “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones”. By respecting her husband and being willing to support him, a wife can show her devotion to him and to God.
