Connection between Man and God
Peace is seen throughout the Bible as a state between God and mankind. Christianity teaches us that peace is possible only when people believe in Jesus and accept Him into their hearts. In Jeremiah 29:11, God says “I will give you a future and a hope and will bring you back to the land of Israel in peace.” In Isaiah 9:6-7, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, and Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” This passage indicates that God sent His Son, Jesus, to be a source of peace among all people.
Peace Beyond Human Reason
The Bible also speaks of a peace that is impossible to attain on our own, a supernatural peace that surpasses human understanding. Philippians 4:7 declares that we can experience this kind of peace “. . . and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This peace is not a state of tranquility, but a state of trust in God. John 8:32 tells us “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” In order to find peace, we must humbly repent of our sins and accept the truth that Jesus brings. In John 17:21-22 Jesus prays, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” Jesus is praying that His followers would be united in peace and faith, so that the world would recognize Him.

From the passages discussed above, it is clear that the Bible puts great value on peace. Whether it is peace between man and God, peace between believers, or peace through repentance, the Bible emphasizes that peace is necessary for life to be in harmony.
