Chastening also helps us to become better people, by learning to be accountable for our actions, to be responsible in all areas of our lives, and to become humble. It teaches us to see our mistakes and to ask for forgiveness. Divine discipline helps us to restore our relationship with the Lord and to rely on Him for guidance and strength. For those who accept it and turn it into wisdom and practice, it can build character and modify our attitude, beliefs and behavior in a positive way.

Luke 6:46 says, “Why do you call me Lord and not do the things I tell you?” These words of Jesus teach us to obey God’s commands even if they’re difficult or uncomfortable. Moreover, Romans 6:16 teaches us to “obey from the heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.” This teaches us to follow the Word of God even when it seems difficult to do so.

From the Bible’s perspective, the power of chastening lies in its ability to create a religious sense of community and responsibility. It is a way for God to communicate His love and guidance to an individual. When a believer loves God and follows His commandments, it is an act of obedience and faith.
