A nocturnal emission is a discharge of semen that occurs during sleep. The emission may happen without a dream or any sexual thoughts or stimulation. In the Bible, nocturnal emissions are often associated with sexual sin.<\/p>\n

A nocturnal emission is a natural, normal occurrence in young men during puberty. It is also known as a wet dream. A nocturnal emission happens when you have a sexual dream and you wake up with an orgasm. You may have an erection and\/or ejaculate (semen) may be present.<\/p>\n

Is it a sin to have a nocturnal emission? <\/h2>\n

Patristic Christian Saint Augustine held that male nocturnal emissions, unlike masturbation, did not pollute the conscience of a man, because they were not voluntary carnal acts, and were therefore not to be considered a sin.<\/p>\n

A man who has an emission of semen must bathe his whole body with water and will be considered unclean until evening. Any clothing or leather that has semen on it must be washed with water and will be considered unclean until evening. This is to make atonement before the LORD for the man.<\/p>\n
