Stories of biblical figures such as Abraham, Moses and David often bring to mind tales of death and resurrection, but what about those who defy mortality? We take a look at the biblical figures who never died. Although these people’s stories may seem incredible, they are nonetheless a testament to the power and influence of the Bible.

The most famous biblical figure to never die is Enoch. He was born to Adam and Eve’s third son, Jared, and was the great-great grandfather of Noah. According to Genesis, Enoch “walked with God” and was taken up to Heaven without seeing death. It is said that he faithfully obeyed God and maintained a close relationship with Him. This is said to have been the source of his ability to live beyond the span of a man’s life.

Another person believed to have never died is Melchizedek, the king of Salem mentioned in Genesis. He was said to be the ancestor of the most highly-esteemed kings of Israel and holds a unique place in both Christian and Jewish tradition. He blessed Abraham and Abraham gave him the tithes of all the spoils of war, fulfilling the expectations of a Levite priest. According to tradition, Melchizedek continued to hold a special place in the heavenly court and was even present during the Transfiguration of Jesus.

The Bible is also the source of several other tales of immortality. Elijah and Moses, for example, ascended into Heaven in a fiery chariot and Elijah was seen talking to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. Job is believed to have lived almost forever and is described as an example of righteousness and faith. Other examples include King David, who ascends to Heaven after being called by God, and the two men in white clothing seen by Jesus as he was being taken up in Heaven.
