What Does The Bible Say About Transgenderism

The Bible is often seen as an authoritative source of moral instruction, however the degree to which it applies to modern social issues is a matter of debate. One of the more controversial topics of discussion today is what the Bible does and does not say about transgenderism.

In recent years, due to the growing acceptance of transgender people into the mainstream, debates and questions regarding the moral implications of transgenderism have become increasingly common. The Bible does not directly address transgenderism, making it difficult to answer whether or not the Bible supports or opposes it.

The Bible does address issues related to gender identity and gender roles. Genesis 1:27, for example, states “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”. This passage is often interpreted as referring to gender roles and the importance of adhering to traditional gender roles.

However, some theologians have argued that this passage can also be interpreted as referring to a divine acceptance of gender fluidity. They point out that as the gender binary is a social construction, it is possible that gender need not be limited to the binary. In this interpretation, this passage could be seen to be a sign of God’s acceptance of people of all genders.
